These past two weeks have been extremely hectic. But I, along with all my fellow peers, are slowly starting to adjust to life at GECHS. Along with it being a hectic few weeks I've learned a lot too. What I have learned in Ms. Payseur's class will be what this blog will be mostly about.
Copyright has been the main subject of the past two weeks. We have learned that while everything is copyrighted some things are either open to the public to freely use or is limited to what can or cannot be used

There are also fair use policies, creative commons licenses, and public domain. It all gets very confusing, so I will define them for you in my own words.
Copyright-The protection of someones work. This includes pictures, written papers, and inventions. It is rude and illegal to steal someones work, but some unoriginal people do steal others work which is why we have copyright laws.
Fair use- The correct and responsible use of others work. This occurs when you try to use someones work that just happens not to be your own. In order for you to be able to do that and not be in big trouble when the person finds out you used their work, some smart person decided to cite their sources which is what we still do when we use someones work. But just to be on the safe side ask first. Also some people only want their work used on certain things so be sure to add what you want to use it for when you ask permission.
Creative commons- A license that some authors agree to so other people can use their work without having to ask first. Just like my definition says you can use their work just cite your source(I did this on the picture above). One good Creative Commons website is 4freephotos.com
Public Domain- Everyone in the whole world can use it. Either someones copyright protection ran out or someone just wants to give their work to the public, their are no limitations to public domain it can be used for anything and everything. A good example would be the book Alice in Wonderland.
We also learned how to use Prezi which is a very cool power point site that is 3D and can be used to make even the most boring topic seem awesome.
We also learned the steps on citing a photo.they are as follows, step1: give a brief description of the picture. Step2:you say where its available at and hyper link it(if its on a computer). Step3: Put the date you accessed it. I did these steps on the picture above
To see all this and more go look at my Prezi on it(located above). I will post everything that we cover next week also on Friday, so until then happy copyrighting.

That was an amazing blog Alex! The word hectic is a great description. I agree that Prezi is a cool way to present work also. Although, I suggest you make the font on your blog the same size and not so small. Also since the copyright laws were already described in your Prezi, the definitions on your blog were unnecessary. As I was reading your blog I noticed a few run-on sentences but either than that there are no grammatical errors. Great job and keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't figure out how to change that and if you look at my next one I couldn't get it stop being in bold print. As for the definitions I was just being thorough but your right they were unnecessary. Thanks for the comment.
