Weekly review #7

This week has felt like it has crawled by. I mean really, it feels like a snail could move faster than this week. We also,  have talked about a lot of things. Including our new web 2.0 device this week  WeVideo. For our brand new terms, they are as follows upstander, bystander, target, offender, escalate, and  de-escalate. We also were asked to take a bullying quiz here is the link. We also made a chart about what targets and upstanders can do to de-escalate the problem. Finally, I did a current event article on a new type of speaker that looks like a satellite.

First off( this is just an authors side note) if you have never heard of cyber bullying or even just plain bullying, then count yourself lucky. It is cruel, wrong, and mean. Don't ever do it. People all over the world kill themselves daily because of it.
stop cyberbullying, found here, created 3/30/07

As always I will start my weekly break down with the vocabulary.

  • Upstander- the person who knows about the bullying and wants to stand up to the bully, and help the victim in any way possible. Always be an upstander!
  • Bystander- the person who sees the bullying but does nothing to try to help the victim. He turns a blind eye to it all. Don't never, ever, be a bystander.
  • Target- The person who gets bullied. The victim. The people who get bullied are usually different or new. Always try to be nice to these people.
  • Offender- the person who bullies. He/she comes toward you with either the intent to harm you or having malicious intent.
  • Escalate- something that makes the problem worse. An example would be retaliation.
  • De-escalate- Something done to make the violence of the bullying decrease. An example would be to talk it out with the bully.

WeVideo is an awesome type of movie maker similar to Animoto, yet completely different. I like the fact of you can insert pictures and add text in front of them, but it doesn't have that 3-D feel. For mainly that reason I would recommend Animoto, this for me seems superior to WeVideo.  We were asked to make a we video asking bystanders to become upstanders when it comes to bullying. Mine is right below here.

Okay, like I said earlier, we were asked to contribute ideas to the grander scheme of how targets and bystanders can de-escalate a bullying situation. From this chart I will pull 4 examples from each side to allow you to better understand what you can do for yourself, and for others.

Targets
  • Report it
  • Ignore it
  • Save evidence( it can be used to incriminate the bully later)
  • Don't instagate
Upstanders
  • Report it
  • Support the victim
  • help stop the violence
  • confront the bully without being offensive
All of these are prime examples of what you can do to de-escalate  the situation, but these are not even close to all of the possible ways to accomplish those ends.

Also, as I said earlier, I did a blog post last week on a speaker called The BeoPlay A9. It is this, "above average size speaker" that is so round it looks like a satellite dish. For the complete post, click here

I'm sorry for the long wait for my latest installment of  Payseur Weekly Blog, but hopefully it was worth it. I don't think there will be one next week, so I'll see you all the Friday after next.
